My name is David Scott Kane, my friends call me Scott. I’m a Micro ISV who has been around under a number of “labels” for several decades. At one time I was the founding and primary moderator of three Usenet Newsgroups related to the development, distribution and support of software on the Internet. At that time such software had a rancid reputation in the media and was riddled with misconceptions. Those were the early “wild west” days of the Internet. The Nineteen Nineties and early 2000′s.
Between March 2008 and June 2011 I ran the blog DavidScottKane.com – titled “The Recursive ISV”. For some time it was reasonably well read and was primary focused on software development and the issues faced being a start-up Micro ISV. It was necessary to close the blog down in June 2011 when it started suffering sustained and vindictive attacks from a small section of a political groups who found three of my posts more than they could handle. I learned a valuable lesson on mixing politics with business.
This site, TheRecursiveISV.com, has been split up so as to permit different kinds of articles to be written in their own “blogs” without having to run several different sites. This has been done using WordPress custom post types. The WordPress department on this site will be discussing these beautiful WordPress tricks a little later on.
Ostensibly this blog site, one could argue, does in fact fly in the face of the “lesson on mixing politics and business”. It is for this reason that I have separated it into different “departments”. Four blogs in one site in fact. The actual website itself is an instance of WordPress Multisite. In fact it runs 16 websites. It is one installation of six that I manage, all of them WordPress multisite and all of them containing many other websites. This blog however is effectively only “one site”. WordPress is a truly flexible tool.
My interests are wide ranging. I enjoy marketing, search engine optimization, software development, .Net software development, doing cool things with WordPress including WordPress development and politics – particularly the politics of climate science – which I view, through direct experience, wide research and common sense as primarily a well intentioned cause that is now totally hijacked by extremist political groups.
My primary interest, however, was, is and always remains my family.
